Rainy Day Hobbies’ National Train Day Photo Contest

Ever since the inaugural 13-mile trek steam engine “Tom Thumb” made in 1830, the nation has harbored a love for all things rail.  In honor of the train’s evolution, its role in our country’s history and the journeys it will embark upon in the future, Rainy Day Hobbies will join event locations all over the country in celebrating National Train Day on Saturday, May 8 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

As part of its National Train Day festivities, Rainy Day Hobbies also will kick off a rail-themed photo contest during the event, inviting those 18 years and older to submit photos that embody the nation’s train culture.

National Train Day Coloring Contest - Grand Prize Winner: Auriel Blakey

The National Train Day Coloring Contest was a success!  Young train fans demonstrated their artistic talent and created some great artwork.  It was hard to pick a winner. Therefore we have declared all participants winners with one grand prize. ALL contestants will receive a Melissa & Doug wooden locomotive and tender.  Just stop by the store to pick up your prize.  The grand prize winner is Auriel Blakey.  Auriel will receive the Melissa & Doug Wooden Trainset.  Congratulations to Auriel, Sarai, Zachary, Gracie, Michael, Davey, Durell, Jifo and Nick.

Coloring Contest - Winning Entries: Melissa & Doug Wooden Locomotive & Tender!

STEP 1

Join Rainy Day Hobbies for its National Train Day celebration, to be held on Saturday, May 8 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and pick up rules for its rail-themed photo contest, which begins at the event and ends on Monday, May 31.  (Rules also are available via the Rainy Day Hobbies Web site, found at www.rainydayhobbies.com.)  See the “Contest” section.

STEP 2

Visit one of Metro Detroit’s iconic railways, train stations or model train displays and capture the moment with your camera.  Or, dig through your boxes of photos from days gone by that chronicle trips to famed railroad crossings or that feature elements of the nation’s train-driven history.

STEP 3

Upload your best shot to the contest page before Monday, May 31, 2010 at contest@rainydayhobbies.com where you will find complete contest rules and guidelines.

The winner will be announced on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 and walk away with a new electric train set courtesy of Rainy Day Hobbies (a $125 value).

OFFICIAL RULES, TERMS & CONDITIONS

No purchase is necessary to enter Rainy Day Hobbies’ Rail-Themed Photo Contest (“Contest”).  Contest is void where prohibited.

1. CONTEST PERIOD: The Contest will begin on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 12:01 a.m. and end on Monday, May 31, 2010 at 11:59:00 p.m. EST (“entry period”).  All entries must be submitted by the entry deadline.  No entries will be accepted under any circumstances outside of the entry period.

1. ELIGIBILITY: Residents of the continental U.S., Alaska and Hawaii who are at least 18 years of age by Saturday, May 8, 2010 are eligible to participate.  Employees, officers and directors of Contest Administrators (as defined below) and Contest Administrators’ Affiliates (and their immediate families – spouses, children, parents, siblings, those living in the same households with or without direct relation) are ineligible.  “Contest Administrators’ Affiliates” include all entities associated with Contest Administrators for purposes of this Contest, including judges, subsidiaries, affiliated companies, vendors, sponsors, advertising agencies and promotional agencies, as well as those affiliates’ employees, officers, directors, spouses, children, parents, siblings and those living in the same households with or without direct relation.

By entering the Contest, the entrant (“Entrant”) agrees to the Official Rules, Terms & Conditions (“Rules”), including the decisions made by judges appointed by Contest Administrators.

1. ENTERING THE CONTEST: To enter the contest, follow the steps listed on the “Contest” section on the home page of: www.rainydayhobbies.com .

Valid entries must be the original work of the Entrant.  By submitting the image, the Entrant warrants that the photograph is the original work of the Entrant; the image is not the property of a third party and sole ownership is held by the Entrant with rights to distribute and license the image; the image does not infringe on copyright, trademark, right of privacy or publicity and does not violate the rights of any third party.

Upon entry, Entrant agrees to grant Contest Administrators the right to use the image for future purposes to promote Rainy Day Hobbies. These could include but are not limited to:  print advertising, online advertising, broadcast advertising, brochures, calendars, magazine articles, newspaper articles, etc. The Entrant will be given photo credit at the discretion of the Contest Administrators.  No compensation, royalties or other kinds of payment will be given to the Entrant for Contest Administrators’ future use of images.

All photos submitted must be a high resolution image of at least 300 dpi.  All eligible images must be submitted in JPG format with a maximum file size not exceeding 5 MB.  No images will be returned to the Entrant once the image is submitted.

Minor digital editing is permitted, but limited to:  cropping, rotating, resizing with maintained aspect ratio; red-eye removal; contrast; brightness; saturation; and color balance.   Any major digital editing measures are not permitted, including but not limited to: addition of copyright information, watermarks or signatures; framing; splicing images together; and artistic filters.

Images that have been edited with measures not permitted will be disqualified at the discretion of Contest Administrators, and the decision will be final.

1. JUDGING: Judges will be appointed by Contest Administrators and reserve the right to select Contest winners from the images submitted by the Entrants.  One winner will be chosen via an anonymous judging process which will remove all Entrant names from the images during judging.

By participating in the judging process, Entrants agree to abide by all Rules and decisions made by judges, Contest Administrators and Contest Administrator Affiliates.  All decisions are final and binding in all respects.

Judges and their immediate families (i.e. spouses, children, parents, siblings and their spouses) are not eligible for the Contest.

1. WINNERS/PRIZES: Contest Administrators and Judges will declare one winner (“Winner”).  Winner will be announced on Monday, June 7, 2010.  The winner will be notified via email, phone or U.S. Mail using the information provided by the Entrant upon submission of the image.

The Winner will receive an electric model train set, valued at $125.  Contest Administrators will choose the prize.

All applicable taxes, whether federal, state, local or otherwise are the sole responsibility of the Winner.

All prizes are final.  Winner may not exchange prize or apply it to other promotions and contests handled by Contest Administrators.

Entrants may submit one (1) entry. If Entrants submit more than one (1) entry, the first entry received is the only that will be included for Judging.  All subsequent entries will be disqualified.

Contest Administrators reserve the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value if offered prize becomes unavailable.  No other transfer or substitution of prizes is permitted.

1. GENERAL CONDITIONS: Non-compliance with the Rules may result in disqualification or forfeit of prizes at the discretion of the Contest Administrators.  At the time of entry into the Contest, Entrants are deemed to have read, understand and be in agreement with all Rules outlined herein.  Contest Administrators reserve the right to make a final decision on any issues relating to the Contest not specifically outlined herein.

By participating in the Contest, the Entrant agrees to allow Contest Administrators to publish images for promotional purposes related soley to the Contest in the event the Entrant is named Winner.  Entrants grant the right to Contest Administrators to publish name and city of residence to promote the Contest in print, online or other forms of media.  In addition, Entrants agree to allow advertising and promotional agencies affiliated with the Contest to use their names, cities of residence, images and likeness in any materials used for promotional purposes relating only the the Contest's Winner announcment.

Contest Administrators assume no liability or responsibility for the actions of Entrants.  Entrants enter the contest at their own risk and assume all liability whatsoever for participating in this event.
